' The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. report as follows under date 3rd July : — Butter (free) — In consequence of the heavy nins lately exparienced throughout the colony generally and more particularly in the dairying districts, supplies of the local article are now coining to hand more freely, occasioning therefore a slight falling ofi in the demand for New Zealand tutter. Quotations hare, however, with trifling exceptions maintained their firmness, and we have since our last report placed some 850 kegs and tubs at the undermentioned rates, which may be regarded as current values :— Ttnll bat er, in pickle, Is B£d to Is s&d 5 selected Canterbury, Is 5d to Is 6d ; meJium quality, 9d to is. Since our last the Hauroto has arrived with 455 kegs. Cheese (duty 2d pt-r lb)— We fiote a fejr transactions in Sew Zealand cheese ac 7d per lb, duty paid. Hams and B.icr-n (duty 2d per lb)— fl&ve good demand, and all forward are readily taken up at late rates of lid to 12d for bacon, and up to Is Id for hams. Wheat (free)— Fowl feed has good enquiry, and up to 2s 9d has been obtained for some very good camples out of late shipments. Uarley (free)— TJnaltered. Oats (free) have bo better attention, and sales are being made in large lines on the basis of onr late quotati-ns of 2s to 2s 2Jd for fair to bright stout heavy feed. Seed descriptions are neglected. Bran (free) is in good de» tnand, aud late consignments have been well taken up at I2d to 12£ d. Pollard (free) has but a small consumption, and prices have farther given way. Qa&tation is nowl2£d. Potatoes (free)— A further improvement ia noticeable, owing, no doubt, to the cessation of shipments from New Zealand. Pxeßent quotation, £3 to £8 ss. Malt (duty Gd per bushel) — No good camples forward. Inferior qualities of New Zealand are quite unmarketable.
