AUCKLAND, Tiiursday. Wm. M. Moyal, an old resident, has been found dead in bed and a verdict of " death caused by a tit of apolexy arising from excessive drinking '' was given. A similar verdict was given in the case of Chas. Byrne, found dead in the street yesterday morning. The police have discovered a plant of £200 worth of the jewellery stolen from on board the steamer Wellington. It was secreted in the ea-th at Freeman's Bay. Some half dozen of the Wellington's crew who ore implicated are to be brought before the Bench to-morrow and some remarkable disclosures are anticipated. The Waitemata County Council has decided to borrow £10,000 under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. The Postmaster here compulsorily registered all letters addressed to " Zoo Jumbo " and " Ada Mantua." These, fearing prosecution under the Gaming and Lotteries Act, refused to take delivery, and in one week alone unclaimed letters containing £300 were sent to the Dead Letter Office | from Auckland. | NELSON, Wednesday. From the fact that thirty engineers have applied for the plans and descriptions of the Napier harbor, it is thought that a good many designs for'the improvement work" will be sent in. The accepted design obtains £500. Fine weather has now set in, and shearing is active. It had been seriously retarded by the late unusual rains. KUMARA, Thursday. Mr Seddon, M.H.R., addressed a large meeting of electors at Dilman's Town last evening review ? ng his actions during the last session of Parliament. A vote of thanks and confidence was unanimously carried. After his addresß Mr W. Morris, on behalf of the miners of Kumara and Stafford Town, took the opportunity of presenting him with a gold watch as a mark -of esteem and appreciation of his services on their behalf in Parliament. CHRISTCHUROH, Wednesday. The Mayor of Christchurch waa to-day presented with ft testimonial in memory of

his services in connection with the Exhibition. The present was composed of silver and cut glass, and a gold locket in addition ! for Mrs Ruddehklau, and was of consider- , able value. The executive committee of the Railway League this evening decided to laise subscriptions to defray the expenses of league. A report on the whole question of the East and West Coast routes was drawn up for presentation" to the Commission tomorrow.. A long resolution was passed expressive of disappointment at the in-^ ability of the Commission to take the West .Coast line into consideration, and asking the Government to either appoint a new Commission or extend the scope of the present one. The Mayors of Christchurch, Sydenham, and St. Albans were all re-elected to-day without opposition. Four drunken shearers on a spree bailed up the Railway Station at Waikari, to-day, and created so much disturbance and annoyance that the police had to be sent for. Two were arrested, and the other two had escaped before the police arrived. The electric fire alarm system is now completed, and the boxes all placed in position. Thursday. The Industrial Association is forwarding circulars to all the large iron founders in the colony with the view of obtaining information as to the possibility of manufacturing railway plant within the colony. The foundation stone of a Presbyterian church at Port Chalmers was laid to-day by Captain Thomson, harbormaster. It is to be a stone building to accommodate 750 persons. The Equitable Insurance Association have taken permanent premises in Dunedin. The delay in the allotment of shares has been owing to the articles of association requiring to be altered in accordance witli the provisions of the Act passed last year. Allotment notices will be posted in the beginning of n*xt week. Mr Larnach and Mr W. H. Cuttcn are definitely out for the Peninsula seat. Catherine Anderson died at Deborah Bay yesterday under suspicions circumstances. At the Police Court on Wednesday a child, four years old, was brought before the Bench as neglected. The police had found it positively drunk in Stafford street ; the mother having given it liquor and turned it out. It was sent to the Industrial School. The Benevolent Institution Carnival, which will be open for ten days, was formally opened to-day by the Mayor. A costume criekot match will be up in connection with it — All England Eleven v. Women's " Rights " Association. The latter side will be in appropriate female costume, and the former dressed in the costume of cricketers of 1845. At the session of the Worthy Grand Lodge of Australasia 1.0. G.T., now being 1 held here, it has been decided that the next session shall be held in Sydney about February, 1885.
