At the wool auction to-day 7GOO bales were offered, and a firm and active demand was again experienced. As compared with tlie rates ruling at close of last sales, prices for fleece are now fully l£d higher. Seoared is about Id, and greasy orossbreds tiro £d to lil higher. The ltight Hon. the Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of State for India, addressed a crowded meeting at Blackburn, Lancashire. In the course of his speech he alluded at length to the present state of affairs in Ireland. He regretted that the situation in that country caused die utmost anxiety, and was calculated to inspire the greatest disappointment and dissatisfaction. Agrarian outrages were alarmingly rife, and the exorcise of the rights of properly was fraught with difficulty and danger Elis Lordship added that the situation was receiving the earnest attention of the Government, who would continue to act with unswerving firmness and inexhaustible patience. The barque Pampero, 588 tons, bound from Liverpool to Port Chalmers, experienced a severe gale off the British coast, during which she was dismasted. She has been towed into Penzance for | repairs. A storm of unusual violence has been experienced over a great part of England during the past forty hours, causing great destruction to property, and numerous wrecks on the coast. Lefroy alias Mapleton, who was recently found guilty of the murder of Mr Gold, on the Brighton railway, has admitted that he committed tha crime, and has also confessed to the murdar of Lieut. Roper, at Chatham, whose death occurred mysteriously some time back. Nor. 28. Telegrams have been received from Hong Kong reporting the wreck of the iron ship Bolton Abbey (1150 tons), of Liverpool, while on her voyage from Newcastle to Manila. The captain and all the crew except three were saved, and hare reached Hong Kong. Consols have advanced to 10(H New Zealand securities aic at the following quotations : — Five per cent. 1040 loan, 104 ; 4 per cent. 1889 loin, 104; 4£ per cent. 1878 1004 loan, lOOf. Adelaide wheat, ex store, remains at 5Gs ; Now Zealand ditto, at 525. Adelaide Hour, ex store, 475. Australian tallow — Best beef, 39s ; best mutton, 41s Gd. At the wool sale to-day 10,500 bales were offered, making a total of 48,000 catalogued since the opening. More enquiry was experienced, but the demand was principally speculative. Parliament is expected to be summoned for the despatch of business on January 19th next. Lefroy, the Brighton murderer, was hanged to-day at Newgate gaol. BERLIN, Nov. 28. The Emperor William, who has for some time past been severely indisposed, has so far recovered that he is now able to take carriage exercise. PARIS, Nov. 28. Baron Counsellor ha 6 been appointed to stiocced Count de Saint Vollier as French Ambassador at Berlin.
