WASTE LANDS BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of this Board took place yesterday, when the Chief Commissioner aud all the .members were present. The Chief Commissioner read the following telegram received from the Minister of Lands, stating that the Government had agreed to the following terms of settlement re Spence's case :— " (1) The Government consent to the exchange agreed to by the Land Board; and the Receiver of Land Revenue will be instructed to immediately cancel previous receipts, and to issue in lieu thereof receipts for land agreed to be exchanged, acreage to be adjusted by Spence Bros, and Land Board. (2) Government to withdraw caveats i against all land affected by decision of Privy Council, and Crown grants to issue at once. (3) Spence to waive all claims ' for costs in action, and all other claims against Government. The Government has appointed Mr Stout to act for it in this matter, and on receipt of instructions from him will at once give effecc to the above arrangement." Mr Harbison, who was present, agreed to the terms proposed, and requested the Board to wire to Mr Stout to instruct the Receiver of Land Revenue to carry out the provisions of the telegram. A petition was read from thirty-four settlers iv Myross Bush district, praying that the balance ot the bush reserve there be not sold, but kept for the purpose originally intended, viz., for the requirements of settlers. The Board resolved to adhere to its former resolution, re sale of land, but that the area of sections should be five instead of ten acres. The Ranger reported favorably on the applications of Jas. Haywood, section 196, Taringatura district, and Jas. Holloway, section 121, Oreti Hundred, for deferred payment leases, which were granted. The Ranger also reported on the application of Jas. Gobbe, to purchase section 122, Oreti Hundred. Permission granted. A memorandum was read from the Under-Secretary requesting the Chief Commissioner to state any objections there may be to the vesting of certain reserves in Wallace county to the County Council. In regard to certain sections in Waimattiku, Otautau, Calcium, aad reserve alongside of Jacob's river at Wrey's Bush, it was decided to recommend only half of each, the balances to be retained for prospective municipal purposes. Ferry reserve, section 56", block 4, Jacob's River Hundred, and the reserve south-east of section 6, Aparima Hundred, were recommended for grant. The following village allotments were granted in block 4, Menzies' Ferry : — John i Morris, section 4 ; John Sinclair, section 10; Robert Stobo Wilson, section 33. In the case of section 35, there being more than one applicant for the same, it was decided that a ballot, in terms of the Act, should take place on the 16th inst. Tiic following deferred payments in the Hokunni district were granted: — James Kiiy, section 595 ; Edward Doolan, section 591 ; Samuel Walker, section 589 ; James Shiels, section 588 ; Alex. Alexander, section 59 ( J ; William Cowie, section 600 ; James Peterson and John Tressirler, section 583.
