It appears that the .number; of Vessels piloted,, during ttieJast six monthsrof . lß77, ;was 18, representing a gross tonnage q£ 5934, and pilotage rates amounting to £8& 3s. During the corresponding period of 1 878. the number of T^els ; Y^--64 J r;Mthj-igross.tonusge.ofvlsj746, i and: £3so; 2s lOct 6E 'pilotage rates.\ :£: large number of vessels are exempt from pilotage, and this return: therefore only applies to. ves-. sels actually piloted by the harbor pilotage service/ At the same meeting, the following: report was adopted :^-'l That ,the Secretary ibgji instracted to write t6 :J Messrs ; -Houghton and Company, ericibsiiig, the undermentioned list of towage charges "at the Bluff Harbor, and asking them what subsidy, if any, they re r quire upon thes^.TateJs for the seryices of : their steamers Wanganiii and Oretij when at. the Bluff. Towaga rates for one mile beyond the pilotage " ground :— Yessels i of 200 tons and uiider, £7 10s ;"dver 200, and under 500, £11 ss-; over ; 500, and under 1000, £20 ; over 1000, £25.
