r+ A poll of the burgesses was taken yesterday, to decide the question of borrowing £100,000. for the purpose of carrying out the proposed Dunsdale Creek gravitation scheme. Although thp occasion was one of much moment to the town, not a great deal of interest was displayed, only a little more than one fourth of the ratepayers voting. There are 883 names on the roll, and only 262 votes were recorded. Each ward had its polling place, and the result of the polling as declared by Mr Scandrett, the Returning Officer, shortly after six o'clock, was as under : — FOB THE PEOPOSAL. VOTES. NorthWard 33 Second Ward ... ' 66 Third Ward ... - 31 Southward ... -' 25 - Total ..... ... .155. AGAINST THE PROPOSAL. ■ NorthWard 22 Second Ward 42 Third Ward \ r .. ' 29 Southward 1* : Total ... " 107;; ' The majority in favor of the proposition to borrow was therefore' 48.
