ARRIVAL OF THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL
Auckland, Saturday. The Macgregor has arrived with the San Francisco mails. She left on the 19th July, and had fine weather. The Hon. Mr Waterhouse js amougst her passengers.
Heavy rains in England caused serious damage and loss of life in Wales. The river Ogmore overflowed, inundating the town of Bridgend where one life was lost, and many* cattle were drowned. The Monmouth canal at Carnarvon burst, and thirteen were drowned. One hundred inhabitants were moved to Cardiff in boats. A meeting was called by the Badical Club in Trafalgar square to protest against the draft for the Prince of ; Wales's expenses in India. The wheat and vine crops in Villafranca and Magon, in Frauce, were completely destroyed by floods. 216 bodies were found of those drowned at Toulouse. An affecting farewell was given to Messrs Moody and Sankey, when 700 clergymen were present, principally Church of England. Nearly three million attended their services in London during the past four months. There has been a violent storm at Valparaiso, inflictign much loss of life and property.
