Wellington, Thursday. The rumor circulated by the Melbourne Age that Sir Julius Vogel had resigned his position, and become one of Messrs Rothschilds' financial agents has r«ceived a semi-official contradiction in the Tribune and New Zealand Times. The accounts of the colony are in a i forward stale of preparation for presentation to Parliament upon its opening. The following is an extract from a telegram from the Agent • General, dated London, 16th June, giving names of vessels together with the number of immigrants, which left for this colony in May ; — " Allumbagb, Dover, 172, Auckland ; Halcione, 298, Taranaki ; Friedbourg, 289, Napier; Rodney, 487, Wellington ; Blairgowrie, 441, Lyttelton ; McCausland, 339, Bluff. Stewart's special sailed on the 7th." Dunedin, Thursday Fifteen persons were summoned today for neglecting to clean the footpaths fronting their shops. As this was the first case of the kind, the Magistrate dismissed the defendants with a caution. All the papers, for the last three days, contain letters on the filthy state of the streets, saying they are the dirtiest streets of any town in the colony.
