The Carrick Castle left Liverpool for Queenstown on the 20th April, arriving at the latter port on the 23rd. The immigrants were received on board the next day, and the vessel finally left Queenstown on the 27th. Moderate weather and favorable winds were experienced up till the 13th June, the vessel being in 4150 S. lat. and 12*27 E. long. From thence to arrival at the Bluff a series of gales were experienced, the vessel shipping considerable quantities of water, and a number of sails being split. On the 29th May, James Lyons, an able seaman, who had been interfering with the single girls, was checked for his conduct, when he replied impertinently. On being ordered forward, he refused to go, and was eventually placed in irons. Im- I mediately afterwards the remainder of the crew went aft, and asked the captain to release Lyons, j otherwise they would do no more work. This I condition the captain refused to comply with, and the crew then knocked off work. This state of mutiny caused some little excitement among the passengers, several of the single men volunteering to assist the captain and his mates in working the ship. Next morning the crew were again called aft, when they refused to return to their duty, stating that they would work the •hip to the nearest port, Rio de Janeiro. At noon the ship's course was altered for Bio, the ship being worked with the assistance of the passengers. At 8 p.m., however, Lyons was released, and the men at once returned to their work. Two days after sailing, a child, which had died of pneumonia, was buried, and one of the married females died in childbirth. In the early part of the voyage, two of the single females were brought before the captain on a charge of insubordination, but on being, remonstrated with they promised for the future to conform to the regulations. On the 7th May another child died, and on the 19th a child born before the sailing of the vessel was overlaid and smothered by its mother during the night. On the 22nd May a child died in convulsions, and on the 26th another died from diarrhoea. A cable telegram, dated London, June 27, announces the arrival of the following vessels : — Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, from Melbourne ; Fugitive and Windward, from Tasmania ; Star of India, Dunfillan, Bebington, City of Dunedin, from New Zealand ; Agnes, William, Damascus, Monalteno, Henderson, England's Glory, Annie, Peony, Victoria, Chili, Duke of Edinburgh, Agnes Muir, Jessie Eeadman, May Queen.
