Mr John Brook, Manse-street, reports :— Wheat and flour remains without alteration in value, a few parcels have arrived from Christchurch, and samples are turning out satisfactorily. Inferior samples of grain are so much in excess of the requirements of the season, that a large quantity must either be held over until next sea3on, or be sold at extremely low values, for shipment. Good oats are in_ fair demind, but without orders for export ; potatoes are coming in sparingly. . Messrs MTJandress, Hepburn, and Go. report that they held their periodical sale of flax at the stores of Mr J.W. Jago, in Stsart street, on the 11th inst. The attendance of buyers and others interested in the industry was large, but the' late unfavorable advices from England exercised a depressing influence on the bidding, and the whole quantity catalogued was passed in, except two lines, which sold aa follows :— . B ASH 10 bales scutched, at £20 2s 6d per ton B 18 bales unscutched, at £18 per ton The Ocmaru Times of April 8 reports : — The grain market still continues depressed, and prices have not improved since our last issue. We hear of a large transaction in oats — price withheld. The price of wheat remains as last given, although we have heard of the purchase of a first-class sample at. 3s 9d terms. Barley ' continues dull of sale. Flour is quoted at £11 per ton. '
