QUEENSLAND.
Brisbane, April 5. The corporation punt at Rockhampton has been, capsized, and one passenger drowned. The mayor and town-surveyor had a narrow escape.' Three horses which were being taken across were lost. Christopher Faust, the man who bratally assaulted and attempted to murder a shepherd, who had given him shelter in his hut, has been sentenced to twenty years' penal servitude. The scene of the murderouß assault was on Appin Creek, near Rockhampton, and it is a great wonder the poor shepherd has recovered. He had to crawl a long distance on his hands and knees for assistance. Simpson, the man who was shot by the bushrangers who stuck up Messrs Towns' store, on the Gilbert River, some two weeks ago, has died of his wounds. News has been received that rations | on the Western Creek diggings had been j exhausted, and that the miners had been compelled to live on horse flesh. The club house was burned down yesterday. A nugget weighing 67 ounces has been found at the Delaney River diggings.
