Adelaide, April 1. , A woman who was found guilty of bigamy, and sentenced to six mouths' imprisonment, has been recommended for a free pardon on technical points. i April 2. His Excellency the Governor Sir James Fergusson leaves next Tuesday for a month's visit to Victoria, Tasmania, and New South "Wales. April 4. The Commissioner of Public Works has announced his intention of standing for the electoral district of Stanley. Messrs Skelton and Clarke, two protectionists, who had gone to Wallaroo to influence the election there against Mr Hughes, were rather roughly handled, being pelted with rotten eggs, and receiving other palpable proofs of the electors' disbelief in their doctrines. The weather is still very sultry and hot, and there is a good deal of sickness prevalent, which is attributed to the closeness of the atmosphere. The cora market shows no signs of alteration. April 5. The second batch of elections is now going on, and causing a good deal of excitement. Mr Goyder, the Surveyor-General, has received instructions to commence at once the valuation of all the runs in the colony. A soup kitchen has been established in Adelaide. Small sales of wheat have been made to-day atss 2£d, but very^ittle is offering. Mr Harwood's theatrical company have closed their engagement here, and return to-day by the Coorong, to assist at the Theatre Royal, Melbourne, during the engagement of MLr Charles Mathews. April 7th. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, held yesterday, resolutions were adopted approving of the cental system in selling cereals. Captain Hart, who was defeated for Port Adelaide yesterday, by the Peninsula votes, received a great ovation to-day* When going to attend the declaration of the poll, the horses were taken out of his carriage, and it was drawn by the crowd. There were quite 2,000 people there. Wheat is firmer. A lot of Mount G-ambier was sold to-day at 4s 6d per bushel. April Bth. Mr Everard has declined to contest the Barrosa district. Judge Gwynne was fined 5s in the Police Court this morning, for riding on the footpath. Mr Hart has given way to the wishes of his friends, and has consented to stand for the Burra. He will address the electors to-night. There have been no transactions in wheat to-day, but there has been a good inquiry at yesterday's quotations. Messrs J. M. Solomon and Co. sold by auction to«day, about 500 bags of damaged sugars ex Elderslie, at good prices.
