SYDNEY COMMERCIAL.
(From the Herald, July 24.) The quantity of gold dust imported into the Sydney Branch of the Royal Mint from the Ist of January to the 17th of July, for the purpose of coinage, amounted to 269,966 ounces. The coin issued during the same period has been GOO,OOO sovereigns, and 558,500 half-sovereigns. Total value, L 879,250. During the corresponding period of the year 1562, the receipts were 453,459 ounces ; and the coin issued, 1,611,500 sovereigns. There is, therefore, a decrease this year of 183,493 ounces in the gold dust received for coinage, of J. 732,250 in the total value of the coin issued. The principal cause of this decline in the business of the Mint is the falling off in the yield of our gold fields as well as in the receipts from the neighboring colonies for coinage, which last year was considerable.
