TOWN BOARD.
The usual -weekly meeting was neia on Wednesday afternoon, at the Town Board Office, Tay-street. Present — Messrs Samuel Beavan (Chairman), Grieve, Mitchell, Blacklock, M'lvor, Garthwaite and Clarke. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Cemetaky. The Clerk read the following letter from the Superintendent's office : - Superintendent's Office, Southland, 15th Dec, I«G2. Sin, — In the supplement of the Southlawi 'News of Saturday last, Mr M'lvor is reported to have stat cd at a meeting of the Town Board, with reference to the Cemetery, that " three grave 3 protruded right across the roadway, simply because the Government officials refused to change the road line pegs a few feet lo one side; and that the coflins required to be deposited in graves among some few feet of water, lie denounced the whole as a burning scandal to the Government." These remarks seem, from the report, to have been acquiesced in by the Town Board. The Superintendent is desirous to know upon what of-tic-ids the blame is chargeable, and I am therefore instructed to enquire of the Town Board : — 1. Who laid out the road line referred to, and where was it ? 2. AVho refused to change the pegs ? 3. Wan the Cemetery under the management of the Government, or of the Town Board at the time this statement (as reported) was made ? 1 have the honor to be, Sir, Your obedient servant, H. A. CILLER, Clerk to the Superintendent. The Clerk to the Town Board, luvcrcargill. Mr. Blacklock said that the Board could not be responsible for expressions made use of by individual members on topics foreign to the business before the Board, and, in reply to his Honor's communication, he_would move the following resolution : — That this Board does not recognize the report of the proceedings of the Board as contained in the Southland Neivs ot Saturday last as being correct. Besides, this Board is not accountable for the remarks of members, except in so far as they endorse the same by passing any resolution regarding which these remarks may have been made. Mr. Grieve seconded the resolution, which was unanimously carried. FORMING STREETS. The memorial from inhabitants in Taystreet, presented to the Board at the last meeting, was again taken into consideration, After a good deal of desultory conversation, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Mitchell, seconded by Mr. Garthwaite, "that T*ystieetbe formed 100 feet in width, and that the Clerk be instructed to apply to Mr. Heale for specifications in order to advertise the same, and have the work proceeded with at once." The Board then separated.
