Moffatt gave notice ol appeal to the Privy Council, and designated the decision as oppressive, unjust, and unfounded. He was threatened with committal for contempt. The Mayor came to the Judges for advice, and was told that Moffatt was no longer an attorney, and had only the same claim to be heard as an ordinary citizen. The people of Mudg-ee have presented L IOO to Mr. New, and L2O to Constable Campbell, foi apprehension of bushrangers. Price and Dillon have also recommended Campbell for promotion. In the Upper House, a resolution dissenting from ihe President's ruling against the power of the House lo deal with money bills was carried by sixteen to three. The State Aid Abolition Bill, after several ineffectual attempts at postponement, was carried through committee and adopted, with Mr. Holdeh'B amendments. There have been heavy thunderstorms at the Hunter. Two hoises and a dog were killed by lightning, and two bojs driving a team severely hurt. The Crown and Anchor public house, at Morpeth, had its chimneys destroyed, and was otherwise damaged. The up and dow n Tamworth mails have been plundered, one after another, by a single mounted man armed with a revolver, who also stuck up and robbed' Mr. Turner, inkeeper, of bingera, near the same place, of LlO orLl2 and a gold watch. L 274 in notes are known to ha^ been in the up mail, belonging to thie Bank of New South Wales. Mr. Davidson is appointed acting sur-veyor-general, and Mr. Adams deputy.
