OBITUARY

MRS M. H. ROBERTSON. We have to record the death of another of the early pioneers of Invercargill in the person of Mrs Mary Henderson Robertson, widow of the late Mr George Logan Robertson, Earn street. The late Mrs Robertson was born at Moffat, Dumfrieshire, in 1837, and with her husband landed at Port Chalmers on Christmas Day, 1862. Mr Robertson, who pre-deceascd his wife by six years, in company with the late Mr Jas. Moore, of Riverton, then walked overland to Invercargill. Mrs Robertson followed later in a small steamer called the Titania, landing at the Invercargill jetty on Feb. 10, 1863. Mrs Robertson's first residence was a tree whare, built on the present site of Ythan street, close to the Southern public reserve. From her arrival in Invercargill to the time of her death she had lived here. Mrs Robertsdn leaves a family 'Of four to mourn their loss, viz., Mr J as. Robertson (late railway department), Mr T. Robertson (Messrs Smith and Co.), Mr C. Robertson (railway department, Auckland), and Miss Robertson (Dunedin): also numerous grandchildren. Mrs Robertson, who was of a retiring disposition, was well-known to many for her quiet acts of kindness and charity, and many there are in Invercargill to-day who could testify to this. Thus another old connecting link with* the past has been immutably severed.
