The resolutions passed at the annual session of the Otago and Southland District Synod of the Primitive Methodist Church, opened at Invercargi.'i on Wednesday, included the following - —That this Synod emphatically protest against the most unjust Ne Tom ere decree, of the Roman Catholic Communion as an iniquitous intrusion into and interference with the domestic and religious rights and well-being of the people- We consider it further as revealing the true spirit of that organisation, and deem that the time has come when such arrogant aggressiveness must be strenuously resisted. It was pointed out that the decree was an insult to the intelligence of the Dominion, apd secondly, that in Great Britain and Germany, where the church is better known, the decree is not in force.

Mrs J. J. Meikle is petitioning Parliament for a grant. She states that she is 62 years of age and destitute, and that the money given to her husband only sufficed to pay his just debts.

At the meeting of the Town Council on Thursday night the reports of the Trams, Finance, Public Works, and Gas and Water Committees were adopted. Cr. Fleming disagreed with the clause in the Trams report au. thorising the supply of electric current to the Charitable Aid Board (for the hospital) at 5Jd per unit. He maintained that fid per unit should be ehasrged, and did so on the ground that the. Engineer in his report recommended that 6d per unit be chars-.'d, seeing that in all probability the plant and men would be required to be in attendance all night for that special purpose. Cr. Fleming r.lso emphasised the fact that that being so. this would mean the consumption of not less than half-a-ton of coal (say 7s) and the attendance of two men (say 2os), to say nothmg of tea: and wear of plant, whilethe return would be problematical
