Elies Road Church Concert.
On Friday evening a very enjovable concert was held in the Elies Road Alethodist Church. Air W. B. Scandrett occupied the chair, and the Reas. Laycock,, Dudley and Blair, who delivered short addresses during the evening, were also upon the platform. The popular pastor (the Rev, T. A. Pybus) was unable to attend, through indisposition. The choir, conducted by* Mr Crisp, opened the concert with the anthem "Rejoice in the Lord,” and later gave a fine interpretation of “ The Radiant ATorn.” Those who contributed items were Miss N. Taylor, solo, "Some of these Days” : Aliss MfcGruer, recitation, "The Drowning Singer” and monologue " Snowflakes” ; Aliss Earsman. solo, “Braw Braw Lads” ; Aliss Dobie, jsolo, "Four by the Clock” ; Miss Kitto, pianoforte solo. Miss Lilico ; "Sunshine and Rain” ; Air Couling, song, "Under the Desert Stan.-” ; Mr Alurray, "Bedouin Love Song” ; Mr Gordon Brown, recitation, "The Revenge” Air Inglis Todd, violin solo ;°AIr Gilmour, recitation, "Flynn of Virginia’-’ ; Air A. S. Wallace, recitation (encored), "Air Orator ; Air E. O. Randle, clarionet solo ; Mr
Alorton, song, "Alary of Argyle" ; Alaster Geoffrey Stewart (encored), "Plymouth Ho” ; Mr H. C. Phillips, song encored), “ (Beloved, it is Morn” ; Mr Ernest Every, song (encored!, "Close to the Threshold” with violin obligato by Mr Inglis Todd : Messrs Every and Phillips, duet, " Watchman, what of the night ?” ; song, "I hear you calling noe,” Air S. Richards ; song, " Les Rameaux,” Air A. Kidd ; song, " I wonder if over the Rose,” Mr Colin Richards.
Where everything was to the obvious ISving of all, it is perhaps invidious to make special mention, but it is only* fair to say that Messrs Every* and Phillips were particularly successful in their duet, "Watchman, what of the night ?” the voices blending* perfectly. This was considered the finest item on the programme. Air Dobie played the accompaniments very ably*, and contributed a pianoforte solo, "Polonaise” (Chopin). A vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman (Mr W. B. Scandrett), the performers, Air Wil.liamson (who prepared the' plans for the handsome additions to the church), and to Afr Lee, who carried out the work.
The singing of the National Anthem lu-ought a most successful concert to a close.
