That Town Clock
We are glad to see that our City Fathers have found an apologist for their celebrated Taihoa policy in the matter of the town clock illumination, and that there actually exists a "reason" for their non-action. 'Tis, however, a weary work, this waiting. We have been waiting for the last five or six years, and when some little time back we saw the clock actually lit up for several nights we were content. We thought our hopes were at last realised —but alas ! the clock was plunged into darkness and never lit again ! The lighting then was perhaps too successful, and so was hastily' abandoned, for iear it might prevent some ambitious watchmaker from setting up a. shop here, or for some equally good reason. Whatever the cause of the abandonment, it seems strange that the temporary lighting could not have been made permanent at comparatively little cost. We are now, however, hopefully looking forward to that "near future" spoken of, when our grandchildren will be able in " clue course" to inaugurate the lighting of the Bluff town clock with a champagne supper or a social.
