HOSPITAL CONCERT

MRS ORR-KORING SINGS

On Wednesday evening last, thanks to the energy of Mr M. Hawkins, the Hospital patients were treated to a concert of Aery high order. The main ward was used, and the patients were, where able, moved into it, and they were delighted with the singing and playing. The chair was taken by the medical superintendent •'(Dr Hendry), and he explained how the concert came about, and thanked Mrs Loring for the favour conferred on the patients ; and at the conclusion of the entertainment, which was of about an hour's duration, moved a hearty vote of thanks to all who had assisted. The concert opened with a very nicely rendered mandoline duet by Mr and Mrs Wootton. Mrs Orr-Toring during the evening contributed live items in. finished style, and by request from a patient gave "The Hast Rose of Summer," which was perhaps the gem of her selections, and for expression and finish it would be hard to find her equal. Mr J. E. Taylor was in good voice and contributed "Oh, hear the Wild Winds Blow, and "Big Ben" as an encore. Mr T). W. McKay gave a couple of 'cello solos in a finished manner. Mr Gilmore is a popular reciter, and his items kept the audience in roars of laughter, and recalls were becoming so numerous that the chairman in the interests of the younger patients had to disallow them. Mr Wootton gave a very fine whistling song with banjo accompaniment. After the entertainment light refreshments were provided by the matron at the Nurses' .Home, for which a hearty vote of thanks was passed, one and all expressing satisfaction at the consideration shown for the sick in promoting such a. line hour's enjoyment, which will long be remembered by those present. The accompaniments were well rendered by Mrs .7. VI. Taylor, and Misses Gladys Searell and McKay.
