Presentation.
A very evident note of sincerity marked the speeches made at the social gathering- held at Brown's on Monday night to bid good-bye' to Miami Mrs T. Paterson and family, on the eve of their departure for Invercargill, after a residence in the district of over 30 years. Mr Duncan King- presided, and after referring to the name Mr Paterson had gained as a settler and as a neighbour, presented him with a gold watch, bearing the following- inscription : “ Presented to Thomas Paterson, Ksq,, by his many friends and wellwishers in Southland. 20/5/1910.” Mr .1. A. Mitchell followed, and at the close of a characteristic address, handed Mrs Paterson a handsome silver-mounted, dressing case. suitably inscribed. Miss Paterson was the recipient of a gold bracelet. Mr D. Mcßae making the presentation. Mi- W. Baird (Otapiri). Mr W. Glen (Invercargill), and Mr G. McDonald also made speeches, eulogistic of the Paterson family, and when Mr Paterson rose to respond he was greeted with hearty cheers. Tie feelingly acknowledged the kindness of the many friends assembled that evening, and referring to the chairman's remarks as to his (the speaker's) services as an honorary veterinary surgeon. said he owed much ol his knowledge to his long friendship •with the late Mr Andrew Dunlop, one of the cleverest men in that line in the Dominion. Musical items were given, and after supper the hall was cleared for dancing.
