BLUFF NOTES
BOWLING. The annual meeting- of the Bowling Club was held ou Monday evening, Mr G-. R. George being voted to the chair in the absence of the President, who is in the North. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted on the motion of Messrs George and Cruickshank. It was decided on the motion of Messrs R. A. Cruickshank and P. H. Dixon that a social be held soon, details to be left to the incoming committee, and on the motion of Messrs T. Crocket and H. W. Martin it was agreed to consider the holding of a tournament on 9th Nov. A suggestion was made that it be an instruction to the inI coming committee to appoint one of their number as green ranger. Trophies for the championship competi(tions were presented by Messrs C. A. jTipping, H. Kingsland, J. Murison, and P. McKenzie, the following being the winners : —Rinks : Messrs Lovett, Galbraith, Cruickshanks, and George (S.) ; Doubles : Messrs G. Walker and G. Kdginton. Singles : A tie between Messrs T. Crocket and A. Young. Notice of motion having been given, it was moved by Mr Salmon that the entrance fee and sub. for first year of membership be reduced to 21s. which was finally agreed on, an amendment that the amount be 30s being lost . On the motion of Messrs Tl. Smith and R. A. Cruickshank, it was agreed that lady members be admitted at a fee of 10s 6d. Mr T. Crocket intimated his intention of presenting a set of Ferns for rink competition.—Agreed that it be a suggestion to the incoming committee to play Saturday rinks.—Decided that a definite date be fixed for closing the various competitions. The following officers were then elected for the ensuing term :—Patron, Hon. Sir .1. G. Ward : President, Dr. Torrance ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs A. McClur.e, and T. Crocket ; Treasurer, Mr G. R, George ; Secretary, Mr T. P>. Salmon ; Committee, Captain Loivett, Messrs K. Parker, R. A. Cruick- | shank. J. Walker, J. Murison, H. Kingsland, G, Steel, and A. J. Lister ; Delegates to Bowling Centre, Messrs G. R. George and T. Crocket; Auditor. Mr H. W. Martin. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the secretary, donors of trophies, outgoing officers, and the ladies. BACHELORS.. The bachelors' ball has evidently become an established affair. This year it has been fixed for Friday, the 30th July, and the following committee are arranging the details : Messrs P. Kraeke (chairman), P. Denton (treasurer), H. H. Giles (secretary). J. Halpin, F. Sherlock, C. Johansen, O. Lindquist, W. White, W. Frears, M. Ryan, W. Calder, A. Olsen, F. Jerrett, H. Denny, j. Mooney, and C. Forbes.
BKEVITIES* Weather permitting-, the Bluff Naval Band will discourse some music in the Main street on Saturday evening. In the "soccer" football match on Wednesday between Celtic and the local team, our boys proved too strong for the visitors, the result being mainly due to the fine play of Wright, Beaton, Wilson, Metzger, and Mitchell Bros.
