The U.S.S. Co.’s new steamer Marama made her first appearance at I the Bluff on Monday last, and at--1 traded quite a large number of injterested spectators. The s.s. Wimmera shipped on Monday close on four thousand cases of cheese, a large consignment for the first of the season. | The Bluff Naval Band have pleasure in acknowledging receipt of a i cheque for one guinea from. Mr Chas. Tulloch, the 11th donation for the present year. A meeting of the sports committee in connection with the Band picnic on Boxing Bay, was held on Thursday evening, when the following programme was arranged : —Girls’ races, 6 to 8 years, 8 to 11 years, and 11 to 14 years ; boys’ races, 6 to 8 years, 8 to 11 years, and 11 to 14 years ; single ladies’ race ; married ladies’ race ; bandsmen’s race ; old buffers’ race ; girls’ skipping competition ; bobbing for oranges competition for boys ; quoits competitions ; the prizes for the hidden treasure competition are to be Ids' 7s 6d, ss, and 2s 6d.
A vacancy having occurred for two councillors, the following gentlemen have been nominated for seats in the Council : Messrs E. Parker, G. Skerrett, Jas. McDougall, and Dr.. Torrance. The s.s. Matatua, is expected in port early next week, with a large shipment of impoi'ts for Southland. Southland.
