ST. PAUL'S METHODIST CHURCH.
A well-attended congregational meeting was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening. The Rev. A. Mitchell occupied the chair, and stated that the gathering had bteea called to celebrate the formation of the “ Sauthland Methodist Council.” This Council had been established in accordance with a recommendation of the last Conference, and was intended to embrace all the ministers and home missionaries in active work in any district. The meetings which were to be held from time to time were for conference upon matters affecting the ch arches, and to organise aggressive work, and on behalf of the Leet Street congregation he tendered a hearty welcome to the first council, and predicted that in after years the meeting of that evening would'" be looked upon as historic. The Rev. Mr Hosking, Gore, secretary of the Council, the Rev. Mr Hooper, Winton, the Rev. Mr Beckett, Otautau, and the Rev. Mr Foaton, Riverton,, then delivered effective addresses,, after which Mr J. J. Wosney welcomed the delegates on behalf of the laymen of the church Refreshments, were then dispensed, and a very enjoyable meeting closed with prayer and praise in the form of family worship. Plans stating the services to be held throughout the circuit daring the current quarter were distributed. The chairman made an enconraging report as to the spiritual work of the past three months.
