A COMPLAINT.

It is time some steps were taken to do away with the advertising catches that appear in our papers. The eyes of the busy man, glancing through his morning paper, fall upon a heading that iotercets him. He reads several paragraphs, only to find that some quack medicine or household ai’ticle is drawn in—it is another catch . advertisement, and the reader finds himself fooled once more. There are advertisement columns —“ Wan ted” columns and “Wanted known” columns—in our papers. Why cannot advertisers stick to these mediums of advertising instead of thrusting their wares upon the unwary reader in the general news column ? The best advertisement a merchant can have for his goods is to gain the confidence of the public by supplying a good article. Everybody knows that Westport Coal is good—in fact, the best in Hew Zealand. It recommends itself to all who try it, and gives peace and comfort in the home.
