Cycling Notes.
Mr Glidden, a wealthy Bostonian, who is tonring the woiid on a motor car, arrived in Invercargill last week, and after a short stay, left for Australia on Monday. It is interesting to note some of Mr Glidden’s tours, and the mileage covered in the'varioua countries, namely : Austria 627 mi es, Bavaria 295, Belgium 160, Bohemia 315, Canada 1.251, Denmark 306, England 2,639, France 4,565, Germany 1,546, Holland 435, Ireland 1,510, Italy 608, Scotland 200, Spain 30, Sweden 1,540, Switzerland 1,097, United States of America 2,612, Wales 427, making a total of 20,063 miles. He crossed the Arctic Circle in a motor car on August 16th, 1903, and naturally was the first to do so. He was also privileged to be the first to drive his car upon the railway tracks between Minneapolis and Vancouver, a distance of 1,803 miles. He has covered over 21,000 miles in 176 days’ driving time. Mr Glidden’a car is a twenty-four horse power Napier and can.accommodate six passengers comfortably. One of the most striking features is the enormous wheels and Dunlop tyres fitted, the size being 40in, x Sin. * *
* The Canterbury Athletic and Cycling Clud, New Zealand, has cabled to Melbourne to endeavour to secure Iver Lawson and Floyd McFarland for a New Zealand tour. * *
* A very fine performance was recently accomplished by a motor cyclist named Anzani on the Parc dea Princes track, Paris. On a Dunlopsbod motor cycle weighing llOlbs Anzani covered 62 miles 246 yards in 68mm. 1 l-sth secs. In the hour 54 miles 1350 yards were covered.
