HARRIER NOTES.

The Harriers held their second race • of the season last Wednesday over a mile coarse. The following were the handicaps : —Lyon (scr.), Ingram (25 secs), Sloan (55 secs), Murphy (70 secs), McKenzie (85 St. Paul (100 secs), Wade (108 secs), Wallace (85 secs), Corbet (125 secs), Jaquiery (180 secs), McKay (160 secs) Von Tunzelman, Noble and Cockerill (230 secs). ' The course selected was a special one, and Messrs St. Paul, Lyon, Ingram, Corbet, and Murphy deserve credit for the choice, viz., from the Athenaeum along Dee st. to Gala st., up Gala st. through Bast Invercarcargill and Richmond Grove to East Road, then across paddocks, over Puni Creek, through Georgetown, returning by Jenkins’ store, down Elies Road and Tweed st. to Clyde st., finishing at starting point —a fall mile course measured by the cyclometer. The first man left in fine style and with good pace, but was overtaken before reaching his Jbirthplace, Bast Invercargill. Bt. Pauli ran well untill he tripped over a turnip, the back man catching him up shortly after the fall. Wallace was overtaken at Georgetown by Ingram and Lyon, who were running well together. Shortly after the turn towards Elies Road, Lyon, the scratch man, left Ingram to catch Holst, who was the only man in sight at that time. Holst was overtaken in Elies Road, and endeavoured to hang on but the pace was t)o strong. Corbet and Sloan were still a block or two in front; but steady plugging weighed Corbet down, Lyon running into 2nd place, beating Corbet in the last 100 yds. The race resulted as follows : Sloan, 1; Lyon, 2 ; Corbet, 3 ; Holst, 4 ; Ingram, 5. A few of the chaps did not go the full distance and stood at Tweed st. corner, following Lyon and Corbet in. Lyon secured fastest time—3s min. 32 secs. —which is very good. A large number gathered to see the finish. The run next week will be from the Railway hotel.
