FOREST HILL One of a series of social evenings •was given in the hall on Friday, 24th ult., to a most appreciative audience. Dancing, the main item in the programme, was enjoyed to the music discoursed by Mr T. Laing, assisted by Mr J. O’Shannessy, Mr A. Hamilton acting as M.O. The intervals between the dances were filled with selections by two of Edison’s latest phonographs, one supplied by Mr Hindley and the other by Butler Bros. Songs were also given by Mr J. Thompson and others, and an Irish Jig by Mr McDonald. Mr T. Burke also played the bagpipes for the reeds and scbottisches. Refreshments, which were supplied by the lady friends of the committee, were dispensed about eleven o’clock, after which dancing, songs, and phonographic records chased each other till the small hours of the morning. Forest Hill seems to be experiencing a social revival ; some years ago gatherings of this kind were unheard of. It is no doubt the younger members of the district who are responsible for the change. These meetings are to be held every fortnight during the winter, and doubtless very pleasant times will be sent.
