Cycling Notes.
T. Robl, who paid a racing visit, to Australia a few months back, has again carried off the ‘ Golden. Wheel,’ the classic paced event of Germany. The distance was 100 kilometres (62 and f miles), Robl, Michael, Bouhours Gornemann and Ryser competing. From the start the German crack got away from ths field, and eventually won easily in the world’s record time of 1 hr. 27. mns. 48 2-6 secs. Robl also won this event last year. * * * The Dunlop Company report that the road between Timaru and Christchurch is, in splendid order, and should the weather hold up, Ralston's record of 7 hrs. 8 mins. 32 secs, is sure to be broken, especially so seeing that such men as Ralston, Calder, Arnst Jbros., Connell Bros,, Bain Congreve, Holland, and Edgar are competing. It is doubtful if any other colony could put such a number of good even men into a race at the present time, and the successful rider will have to put up a performance that would be a credit to any rider in the world. * * * Riders in the race will have the opportunity of coming right through without a dismount if desired, as they will be able to take their refreshments ‘on the wing.’ Food bags will be provided by the Dunlop Company at Rangitata Bridge, Ashburton, and Dunsundel. In order to prevent any trouble the Company are sending their own representatives to Rangitata and Dunsandel, whilst Mr Schwartz of Ashburton, will look after cyclists’ interests at the last-mentioned piace. There will be tally one haudred and fifty officials spread over the Timaru-Cbristchurch course on the 25th insb. The Dunlop Company are receiving the assistance ot all of the Cycling Clubs in Christchurch at the finish. * * * One of the greatest attractions in connection with the race will be the show of Motor cars and Motor Cycles at the finish. The Company has isued invitations to all owners to meet at the Clock Tower, Christchurch, at 2.30 p.m. on the 25th inst. and a combined run to the finish will take place. In addition a bend has been engaged and any time that has to be spent awaiting the arrival of competitors should be pleasantly occupied.
