The first District Electors’ List has been printed for Horthend, and contains 62 names of persons eligible to vote. The electors meet on Monday evening to consider the loan pro* posals. Mr and Mrs George Bull, of Brunswick, will have served the necessary apprenticeship next month to enable them to celebrate their Golden Wedding. It is intended to mark the event by a social in the Brunswick Hall, on 17 th Oct. The Bowmont street Sewing Class, get a through a considerable amount of serviceable work in the year, and the articles made find a ready sale. Tha annual sale of work, and tea and social meeting takes place in the Temperance Hall, on 15th Oct. Their energetic president, Miss E. Todd, is arranging details. The case stands adjourned to enable the defendant to obtain certain evidence. Mr T, Gillies has' taken over the storekeeping business so long carried on at Clifton by Mr H. C. Kingsland. Mr Gillies, who is a son of one of the district’s old identities, is a native of the place, and possesses a thorough knowledge of local requirements, added to an abundance of energy and enterprise. Mr W. B. Scandrett, the Eeuter Co.’s energetic local representative, calls attention to the ease and rapidity with which re" mittances can be forwarded by the company to the Old Country. The procession and sports organised to assist the fallen troopers’ memorial fund takes place on Wednesday, Bth October* The promoters have provided a host of attractions, spectacular and other, an d there should be a large attendance. At the close of the address in the Theatre Eoyal on Tuesday evening, Miss Balgarnie made a feeling reference to the gap caused in the ranks of local temperance workers by the death of Mrs E. B. Jones. She understood that the deceased lady had worked with earnestness and enthusiasm for the no-license movement, sparing herself neither time nor trouble, even to the smallest detail, so that the forthcoming poll should be as complete as possible. Miss Balgarnie added that if the women of this electorate emulated the devotion of their deceased sister, and displayed the same self-sacrificing spirit, victory would he assured. The Cycling; Club euchre parties have been exceedingly well patronised during the past season, and the management deserve credit for the fine gatherings. The ladies are always anxious fo appreciate the committee’s efforts, and on Wednesday next they tender a complimentary social. The arrangements are in capable hands (Mrs M. Hawkins, Mrs Gee, MrefWm. O. Harrison, and Miss Brathy), and without doubt this will be the euchre party of the season. Walker, architect, incites tenders for additions to the church at Centre Bush. Mr R. J. Gumming, Athenseum Chambers, advertises several properties for disposal. A number of sections in Campbelltown Hundred, and one in block 4, Winton Hundred, will be open for selection on 16tb Dec. A correspondent informs us that the Liddel street bachelors’ wash-up in Ashley’s hall on Tuesday night, was an exceedingly pleasant and successful gathering. Songs were given by Mrs Blue, and Misses McNatty and Ross, and Messrs J. Gardiner and Fianerty, and a recitation and humorous stump speech by Mr J. Galt. During the evening Mr W. Ball, on behalf of the guests, who numbered over 100, presented the bachelors with gold pendants, with their monograms on one side, and the words “Wash-up, 23/9/02,” on the other, while their popular manageress (Miss Gray) received a ban dsome gold brooch.

Mr D. McKenzie announces that he is a candidate for the Winton Riding, while Mr Alex. McKinnon is out for the Wairio Riding of Wallace County. Dr Torrey and Mr Alexander will probably hold a meeting in Invercargill on Monday afternoon. An inquest was held at the hospital yesterday touching the death of a child of Mr S. Budd, of Waimatua.
