BALL AT MABEL.

[Contributed.] The bachelors gave a ball in the local hall last Friday evening, 15th. It was a great success. Mr D. Ogilvie as secretary was the right man in the right place. The hall was beautifully decorated, and the scene at the opening of the grand march was most inspiring. There must have been close on 60 couples present. Refreshments of the best were provided, and done ample justice to. Fine music was rendered by Mr R. Walker, assisted by Messrs J. Sullivan and 0. Hanning. Mr W. Caulfield made a capital M.O. Songs were sung by Messrs W. Caulfield, A. McGilvary, M. Hogan and R. Morley, and were pleasing items. Dancing was kept up till about four o’clock, when every one went home well pleased with the entertainment provided by the bachelors. Here goes for the dresses — copyright applied for : Mr W. Burke looked his best in a wide-awake hat and cat away coat. Mr T. Kilkelly was attired in the latest Grove Bush fashion —gum boots and stilts. Mr James Murphy wore a seagreen coat and high heeled shoes, with tie to match. Mr Johu Caulfield (Grove Bush) looked just the sweet thing. Mr D. Kilkelly, in a nice pilot coat with pants to match, looked ingMr C. Hanning, in his green dungarees with bow to match, looked very satisfactory. Mr D. Ogilvie, in an up-to-date shoeraan’s rig, took the brisket. Mr T. Hogan greatly stunned the assembly with his plumb collar. Mr G. Amos took the cake —in a fine big pocket made for the occasion, and looked well in a magenta coloured suit, with doeskin shoes to match. Many other of our local gallants were prominent, and by general consent Mr J. Arnold, claw-harhmer coat, runaway collar, and primrose tie, was voted the 1 belle ’ of the ball.
