Cycling Notes.
A company with a capital of £6OOO is being formed in Brisbane to run a steam motor service between Brisbane and Rockhampton —a distance of 390 miles. It is proposed to run four cars with seating accommodation for sixteen to twenty passenS ers - It is reported that the once great A. A. Zimmerman, the fastest sprinter the world ever saw, intends returning to the track. ‘ Ziminy ’ is hooked to race in France next September. *** Wheelmen will find it a great improvement to occasionally remove their chain, and after giving it a thorough cleaning to lubricate it well by boiling it in a can with mutton suet, and afterwards coiling it up iu a plate to drain. Before removing the chain from the cog wheels, however, a notch should be filed on the link of the chain and on a tooth of a back chain wheel, so that on replacing the chain the teeth of the cog wheel will work in the same links. This is a capital idea, as the chain is bound to run sweetly and smoothly in the old groove, whereas, should the running be altered, there is likely to be a grinding sensation for some little while. * * Cyclists will learn with interest that a big development in cycle tyre construction is promised by the Dunlop Tyre Co. early in October. The big company has secured the Australasian rights of a new process of tyre manufacturing that will mean much to wheelmen, in fact, will almost result in a clearance of all cover troubles. The principle of the Dunlop tyre attachment is adhered to, but the new cover will be lighter, taster, and yet more durable than t he existing one, and, despite the new iapprovements, will be considerably cheaper. The new development will mean much to all cyclists. Fully 500 cyclists journeyed out to Oampbellfield on the afternoon of the 26th ult. to witness the finish of the 25 miles event, of the Victorian Inter Club Road Premier Contests. The weather was perfect and the roads in good condition. There were 47 starters, and of these 37 finished in the last limit —90 minutes. A number of spills occurred in the run out, one competitor receiving a slight fracture ef the collar-boue. The finish was very close, the judges having difficulty in placing the men as they flashed over the line. The following is the result : —T. French Ist, Gr. Worcester 2nd, and Gr. Revell 3rd. Of the 14 clubs represented by teams, the Victory came first with 186 poinis; Port Melbourne second with 183 points ; and Fitzroy third with 173 points. The deciding contest, the 50 miles event, will be held on the 22ud inst.
