WAIRIO.
A farewell social was tendered to Mr T. Keen at Wairio on Friday night, Ist inst., on the occasion of hia leaving for Waikaka. Despite the inclement weather some twenty friends and well-wishers turned up. Mr J. Hogan occupied the chair, and in proposing the toast of the guest’s health, referred to the many sterling qualities possessed by Mr Keen and his readiness to help to further all kinds of sport and recreation in the district. Mr Keen, in responding, expressed his regret at leaving such a lot of true friends, and stated that it had always been his aim to do all he could for the district, and he was pleased to see that his efforts were appreciated. He was not going very far away, and hoped to often see them all again. Messrs Baird and O. Gallaher also spoke of the loss the Wairio district would sustain by losing Mr Keen, but it would be Waikaka’s gam. Refreshments were handed round, and songs were contributed by Messrs Egan, Forde, Hogan, Keen, Baird, Wilkinson and Owen Gallaher.
