MARIARUA STOCK IN DEMAND.

Mr James Galt, who is the happy owner of one of the finest and best kept farms in Southland, has for years devoted great attention to the rearing of stock. The fame of his Ayrshire cattle has gone abroad in the land, and small wonder that buyers come from afar in order to secure some of the primest. Early in July, Mr W. S. Luxford, of Palmerston North, annexed a draft of five Ayrshire yearlings at a very satisfactory figure. Then, on 30th July, as we learn from the Wyndham Parmer, Mr Samuel Pletcher had just purchased (per N Z. Loan and M.A. Co., Gore) 50 head cows and heifers at a very high figure from the celebrated Ayrshire herd of Mr Jas. Galt, of Mariarua Estate, Mataura. It will be of interest to many to learn that during the past 14 years he has won in the cattle shows at Invercargill, Wyndham and Gore no fewer than 365 prizes. The list includes six gold medals, four silver medals, six silver cups, twenty-four other handsome trophies, and a total of £4OO in cash winnings. This is an enviable record, enhanced by the fact that Mr Galt bred every prize-winner himself.
