NOTES.
A widow named Romain, born on 26th September, 1800, has died at Ronen from pulmonary congestion. Her centenary was celebrated with great rejoicing in 1900. She enjoyed the rare distinction, of having seen three centuries, namely, the end of the eighteenth, the whole of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth. America has just produced a lady with a tenor voice, who will shortly appear in opera, singing the tenor music. According to an exchange, the colonial marriage market is likely to liven up speedily. It is announced by the ‘ People’s Journal ’ that the Yorkshire Ladies’ Council of Education at Leeds is training young women for the position of wives in the colonies. The training is in cookery, laundry work, needlework, household accounts, first aid and household management. For those anxious to become thoroughly equipped for life in the colonies the council has arranged with the Yorkshire College to supply a three months’ course at the Garforth Farm in dairy work and poultry keeping.
