A man, in this world, is a boy spelling in short syllables ; but he will combine tbem in the next, * * * Defeat is a school in which Truth always grows strong. * * * Success is lull of promise till men get it; and then is a last year’s nest, from which the bird has flown. * * * A. man in the righl, with God on his side, is in the majority, though he be alone, for God is multitudinous above all the nations of the earth, * # Religion is simply right living. * * * Great powers and natural gifts do not bring privileges to their possessor, so much as they bring duties. * * * Whether they shall confess their faults or not, men generally leave to their moods, and not to their principles. * * A man ought to carry himself in the world as an orange tree would if it could walk up and down in the garden—swinging perfume from every little censer it holds up to the air. * * * Memory can glean, but never renew. * * * There are many troubles which you cannot cure by the Bible and hymnbook, but which you can cure by a good perspiration, and a breath of fresh air. !
