HE WILL BUILD SHAMROCK 111.

Sir Thomas Lipton has definitely decided to make a third attempt to annex the Queen’s cup. News from across the water is to the effect that a contract has been let to Mr Wm. Fife, of Fairlie, Clyde, one of the world’s acknowledged expert yacht builders, and perhaps the best in the United Kingdom. At first he didn’t wish to accept the order, alleging that the probability of a big revival in yachting in England would result in certain commissions he couldn’t afford to ignore. Sir Thomas, however, overcame his objections by increasing both his price and the length of the contract. Mr C. L, Watson, a rival builder, will assist Mr Fife in every way possible. One way will be in the handing over of the plans of Shamrock II and all the calculations and details of the tank experiments made in the previous effort. Experts consider that with this information in hand and the experience gained in Shamrock I and Shamrock 11, the next yacht, Shamrock 111, should be about perfect, and probably meet all requirements. As soon as the present British yachting season is over Mr Fife will go to work on his plans, and get them forward enough to g-uarantee delivery of the new challenger in the latter end of 1903. The third attempt by Sir Thomas Lipton to annex the Cup will, therefore, probably be made the year following.
