RAILWAY ROWING CLUB.
On Friday evening, 26th April, the Railway Rowing Club social and ball took place in Ashley’s Hall. A large number assembled, and thoroughly enjoyed themselves till the early hours of the morning, most of those present, especially the ladies, being engaged in nearly every dance. Some of the young ladies made their debut , and looked very well. The hall was nicely decorated with flags, oars, and sculls, and photos of several of the club’s winning crews and the Otago and Southland interprovincial crews were hung in suitable places on the walls. The club’s colours were conspicuously displayed, the red, white and green bunting being prettily twined around the crossed sculls on the walls, and the committee all wore rosettes. Songs were contributed by Miss Gilchrist, and Messrs Everex, McLean, Brockensbire, and Seymour Perry, Miss Gilchrist being the accompanyist. Mr C. Basstian, on behalf of the committee, thanked all present for making the social a success, specially complimenting the vocalists. An orchestra c«mposed of Miss Peters (piano), and Messrs Glennie (cornet), Edwards (violin) supplied fine music, Messrs Kingsland and Son catered for the supper. Mr Geo. Lowden made a capital M.C., and was ably assisted by Secretary Power.
