A EUCHRE SOCIAL.

The first of a series of winter euchre socials was held by the Oreti Rifles in Ashley’s Hall on the 18th inst., and was a great success. Those pre-

sent included Major and Mrs Hawkins, Captain Spaull, Hon. Chaplain Bates, Lieuts. Hall and Lennie, the Colour - Sergeants, and numerous members from all the local corps. The management was supervised by Messrs Jas. Kingsland and Hawkins, and Priv; Peters, and was most ably carried out, the Cycling Club kindly lending their furniture for the occasion. At the conclusion of the games the winning ladies were found to be Miss E. Kingsland and Miss Brass, and the lucky’gentlemen were Corp. Jacquiery and Mr Ruttledge. The prizes were presented by Captain Spaull. Col.-Sergt. O’Toole read a telegram from Sergt. Lennie, Federal Escort, wishing the gathering every success. Refreshments were provided and handed round by the lady friends of the corps, who are specially deserving of thanks.
