MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
The contest for the Invercargill mayoralty proved a keen one, no fewer than 1301 votes being recorded. Of these ten were informal. The election resulted in the return of Mr 0. S. Longuet, who secured 641 votes, the numbers polled by the other candidates being —Mr Bastings, 357, Mr Stone, 293. The utmost good feeling prevailed. The new council is now constituted as under : —Mayor :Mr C. S. Longuet. Councillors : Messrs W. A. Ott, D. Roche, J. Thomson, R. Cleave, G. Froggatt, W. B. Scandrett, J. Stead, A. McKellar, W. Macaliater, J. F. Lillicrap, W. Manson and W. Stead. The contest at North Invercargill resulted in the election of Mr A. Blomfield.
