I.C.C XI. v. APPLEBY XI.
Appleby winning the toss, sent'the I.C.C. into the field, Grindley and Kane opening the batting, Grindley being bowled with the score at 18. Stead followed Kane and carried the score to 48, when Kane was caught off Taylor’s second ball for a well played 25. Stead was in splendid form, and carried his score to 27. None of the other batsmen, with the exception of Ferguson and Meadows,. could do anything against Taylor’s bowling, ; he has not bowled so well for a few seasons, the batsmen not being at home to his fast ones. Towards the end he began to tire. Dalrymple also bowled well, taking 3 for 32. The fielding of the I.C.C. was very slovenly, many chances being missed. The I.C.C. gave a very poor exhibition of batting, 7 wickets falling for 89 at end of the day’s play, Manson being the only one to make a stand, making 22 out of 26 while at the wickets. This match will no doubt be the means of the old club paying more attention to practice. APPLEBY.
