BRICKS FROM GLASS SCRAPS.

According to the Chemical Journal, Dr Ormandy, of St. Helen’s, Lancashire, has discovered how to make good serviceable bricks from the waste heaps of the glassworks of that town. For years scientists and chemists have endeavoured to discover a means of turning to account the immense heaps of spent sand and glass resulting from the operation of

grinding plate glass. At one works alone 1,500,000 tons have accumulated, and about 1,200 tons are added every week. The new bricks have stood exceptionlly severe tests, and the process of manufacture will soon be in full swing.
