Pot Poitrri, — If properly made, the scent of this will last for years. Take half a peck of freshly gathered rose leaves, spread in a jar in thin layers, with a sprinkling of salt between each, allowing half a pint of salt for this quantity. Turn daily. In days the leaves will be nearly dry. Then add 3 oz. of coarsely ground allspice and 1 oz. of stick cinnamon, broken into small pieces. Leave one week, still turning daily. How place in the jar in which it is to stay, adding 1 oz. of allspice, |lb of fresh dried lavender blossoms, 1 oz. of clover, 1 oz. of cinnamon. 2 grated nutmegs, 1 oz. of ginger root (sliced thin), 1 oz. of aniseed, 10 grains of Canton musk, 2 oz of orris root (sliced twin), 1 oz of essential oil of rose geranium, oz, each of essential oil of jessamine, lavender, lemon, verbena, musk, violet, rosemary, and bergamot, and a small bottle of Eau de Cologne. The jar should be kept closely covered, the lid being taken off a few minutes only each day to perfume the room in which it is kept. Yon can add more rose leaves, prepared as at first, or more spices at any time.
