District News.
♦ — LUMSDEN. On Friday week the public hall was crowded, the occasion being the annual school concert. It was a financial success as well as a very pleasant entertainment. Amongst the items was a Punch’s Party by the children. They also gave several musical selections which were all well received and reflected great credit on our popular teacher, Mr W. H. Clark, 8.A., and the mistress, Miss Grant. Mr McKenzie, the pupil teacher, rendered great assistance, and the eveningpassedall too quickly. Mrs James Martin recently gave an evening party to over one hundred friends, the occasion being the marriage of Miss Annie Hampton of Dipton, to Mr W. Martin of Lumsden. Games, songs, recitations and dancing were followed by a most bountifully supplied supper in which variety strove with quality for supremacy. The party broke up at 2 a.m. with the singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne.’ We have had exceptionally high winds and a fair share of rain for the last two days, and feel the change all the more after the fine spring.
