MATAURA.
The new lodge of Oddfellows is already making its influence felt here. At its request a meeting of the two lodges was held recently, when it was decided to call a public meeting to arrange, if possible, to get a public guarantee as well as a guarantee of the lodges to any medical officer who will reside permanently in Mataura. The meeting is to be held on Friday, 7tb Sept., and the inconvenience felt in the past by many when in need of medical aid will probably have a good effect. The annual meeting of the Mataura Dairy factory was held last Wednesday. During the year just past the sum of £6778 was paid for milk, which was an increase of £2OOO more than the company has yet paid in one year. There was a credit balance of £403, from which a dividend of 6 per cent, was declared absorbing £lO7, and leaving* £295 to be carried forward. Miss Dumbleton was engaged for another season, and was awarded a bonus of £65 owing to her labours having unexpectedly increased.
