WOOL SALES.
The first series of wool sales this season were held in Hanan’s Hall on Tuesday, and attracted a large attendance of farmers and business people. There were several new faces among the buyers, and the results on the whole were very satisfactory from a seller’s point of view. The number of bales offered was 6,100. Coarse crossbreds showed an advance of from 10 to 15 per cent compared with last season’s values, running from 7d to Bjd. Fair clean crossbred realised B|d to 9|-d, or 15 to 20 per cent of an increase on last year’s prices, and halfbred fetched lOd to 124 d, an increase of about 35 per cent. Merino brought up to 13d, also from 30 to 40 per cent of a rise. For coarser sorts the demand was poor. The enhanced prices obtained are neutralised to some extent by the fact that the wool in many cases is lighter this season than last, bat even when allowance is made on this score, the returns should please the growers. The next sales will be held on the' 31st inst.
