THE SCHOOLS AND THE BATHS.
Everybody’s business is so frequently nobody’s business, that Mr J. A. Hanan, M. H.R., deserves credit for having brought forward, at the last meeting of the Education Board, the propriety of making arrangements to secure for the children attending the State schools the benefits to be derived from the existence of the Corporation baths. These, thanks to the able management of the lessee, Mr R. Miller, are in excellent order, and afford every facility for the rapid aquirement by young people of the art of swimming. Scarcely a week passes unmarked by the occurrence
of accidents in which the ability to swim would have saved life, and it is to be hoped Mr Hanan will follow up his question on the subject, and see that the matter is carried a successful issue. It was mentioned at the meeting that the High Schools Board intended co take action to have the pupils put through a course of instruction at the baths, and it should be easy to arrange for an extension of the plan to include all the schools.
