I.C.C XI V. I.C.C XIII. The first contest between the above teams commenced on Wednesday. The eleven are all out for 138, and the thirteen had lost 3 wickets for 36 when stumps were drawn for the day. Best and Kingsland opened np for the eleven inauspiciously, both batsmen falling victims to MaGuire in the first over. Grindlay and Taylor then became associated and the score taken to 45 before Grindlay received the fatal ball, Burnes afterwards joined Taylor, and runs came pretty freely for a time ; eventually Taylor landed one into the hands of Watson. The succeeding batsmen added a few, and the innings closed at 5.60 p rn. Burnes was very lucky in compiling his runs, several streaky ones being put op here and there. He batted very steadily, and treated the deliveries from Burke with unusual respect. The fielding of the thirteen was bad. Scandrett and Ritchie were the first pair to do battle for the thirteen. It was a useful partnership, too, 23 runs being scored when Ritchie was bowled. Scandrett and Manson kept the wickets until call of time. XI. (Ist Iknings.)
