OTAUTAU.
Mr and Mrs Macdonald arrived from their honeymoon trip last week, and were welcomed home by the Otautau kerosene tin band, about 40 strong. After a few selections were played, some tea and cake sent all home well contented with their openair entertainment. The following day a conveyance had to be procured to convey the instruments of the band to a place of safety—as the members thereof seemed to have no further use for them in the meantime. However, as far as I can learn another occasion will soon come round if all we hear is true. Mr Allan Carmichael addressed the electors here last week, and had a monster meeting. At the close of the address a vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously. I notice that Mr J. G. Ward is acting as whipper-in to Mr Giltedder, at least he is trying to do so —see his address at Riverton. I hope the Eivertonians will mark the intrusion very effectively when it comes to the ballot. It also comes under my notice that Mr Gilfedder does not advertise in the Southland Times. This shaws a very poor spirit for a man in his position. When he applies the boycott to a small affair like this what will he do in matters of greater importance ? However, I found out that the man was Highlander in dress only. Mr Wm. Affleck has disposed of his blacksmith and wheelwright business to Mr Charles Affleck. The rabbits are very numerous this year everywhere, but they are taking the poisoned pollard very well, when the farmers take the trouble to put it down. I
