PATTERN.

Bern’s Cricketing Cap. —This strong useful cap for boys is worked in starpointed sections c£ plain tiicot. Required, 2oz of blue, lioz of white, single Berlin wool. Bone tricot ueedle Ro. 8. Begin with the blue wool, with 36 chain ; raise a tricot stitch in each stitch of the needle, and having 36 stitches on the chain, work back, wool over the needle and draw through one stitch, * wool over the needle and draw through the stitch so formed and through the next stitch on the needle, and repeat from * till all the stitches are worked off. 2nd row —Insert the hook in the perpendicular stitches of last row and raise 35 stitches, leaving the last stitch unraised, and work back as directed in the first row. 3rd row —Raise 34 stitches, and work back. And proceed in this manner, working one stitch less in every row, till in the 15th row you raise only 22 stitches, and work back. This forms one section of the cap. Join on the white wool, pick up the 22 stitches of the last row, and the 14 unraised stitches for ming the gore, 36 stitches in all, and work another piece of 16 rows. And proceed in this way till yon have done four sections of blue and four sections of white tricot. For the band—and blue wool—pick up all the stitches along the straight side of the cap, 15 stitches on each section, and work 16 rows of all plain tiicot. Then sew up the cap, drawing the top together so as to leave no hole, and place a blue silk button on the centre. Fold the band double and hem it down on the wrong side.
